The smallest of all the cruise line companies that we work with here at iCruise, Aranui operates a very specific and unique cruise experience to Tahiti and the Marquesas Isles. The company was originally set up in 1954 and in 1978 added a commercial line to the Marquesas Islands. In 1984, the Aranui I was converted to accommodate passengers, creating Aranui Cruises.
Over the past 30 years, the Aranui cruise lines have been helping travellers to discover the lost culture of the Marquesas Isles, creating and interest and lasting memories of this stunning archipelago of islands. Aranui takes the Maori word for ‘The Great Highway’ and Aranui cruises have served over 45,000 tourists on the great highway between Tahiti and The Marquesas Isles. The Aranui I was gracefully retired once passenger demand and trade outgrew the ship and since then, the Aranui cruise lines have been getting bigger and more luxurious.
In 2016, Aranui launched their latest and greatest cruise and freight liner to date: the Aranui 5.
Aranui Cruise ships are unique in that they act as a freight liner as well as a luxury cruise liner. Delivering crucial supplies to the remote islands is an important role for the Aranui 5, the latest of Aranui’s magnificent, if unconventional cruise liners. The people on the remote islands rely on supplies and it made great sense for Aranui to combine this important service with the opportunity to take travellers to these remote and stunning islands.
The Aranui 5, whilst looking unconventional, with room for cargo at the front is everything you would expect from a modern day cruise ship. Accommodating up to 254 passengers, the Aranui 5 features 8 different guest decks and reflects the Polynesian heritage of her owners and crew. The main restaurant is where all meals are served on board and there are an additional 2 lounges and 2 conference rooms where guest lectures are delivered. Each of the suites onboard offers up luxury fittings. The Sky Bar, with sweeping panoramic views will surprise and the additional of an outdoor pool, boutique, massage room and gym make this a great option for those wanting to get off the beaten track.

A cruise onboard Aranui 5 is a relaxed affair. Whilst there is plenty to do onboard, this is not a cruise where you are going to find a deep enrichment programme of activities. One of the highlights are the onboard lectures which are presented by passionate individuals who will talk in-depth about the Marquesas and give you a true insight into the islands you are cruising around.
In the evenings, it is not uncommon for the staff to put on an impromptu show of local traditional dancing and song. There is also entertainment in one of the bars onboard each evening so it really is up to you how much or how little you get involved with. There is always a quiet place to sit away from the crowds with a good book and a nice glass of wine or you can throw yourself into the evening entertainment.

The Aranui 5 runs only one itinerary – a 13 night cruise from Tahiti around the Marquesas Islands. Here at iCruise, we offer a fly, stay and cruise deal which will take you out to the capital of Tahiti, Papeete, with 3 night’s accommodation included before or after your cruise and then 13 nights out at sea.
